The Mujeres Raíz Association is a non-profit organization based in Costa Rica dedicated to the defense and promotion of women's human rights.
Our work includes awareness-raising, education, legal training, and prevention of gender-based violence, all with the goal of guaranteeing women's autonomy and their access to justice and new opportunities.
Mujeres Raíz began as a project within the ANADDIR Costa Rica Association, focused on supporting and empowering women.
In May 2025, a group of Nicaraguans and Costa Ricans, along with ANADDIR, which authorized this step, decided to legalize the project as an independent association. Thus, the Mujeres Raíz Association was formally born, with the mission of providing continuity and greater strength to the defense of women's rights in Costa Rica.
The mission of the Mujeres Raíz Association is to promote the defense and protection of the human rights of all women, strengthening their autonomy, access to justice, and new opportunities. Through awareness-raising, education, legal training, and the prevention of gender-based violence, we seek to ensure that women can reconnect with their cultural, social, and personal roots, enabling them to live with dignity, freedom, and respect. We work to build a more equitable, inclusive society free from discrimination and violence, where women are active protagonists of social change in their communities.
Our vision is to be a leading association in the defense of women's rights, where all women, regardless of their origin, situation, or context, can access their fundamental rights and live in a society free from violence, discrimination, and inequality. We aspire to contribute to the creation of a world where women, by reconnecting with their roots, are fully respected, valued, and have the freedom to decide about their lives, their bodies, and their future, living in harmony with their families and communities.
